Neither. They are lemurs. They are more closely related to you than they are to a squirrel! Wonderful creatures. Here’s a great page about them:

Neither. They are called lemurs. Lemurs are related to monkeys, apes, and people. They are a class of primate called prosimians and are part of the infraorder lemuiformes. They are the predecessors of monkeys, apes, and humans, which are the groups known as simians. Lemurs have a long tail like a monkey, but unlike many monkeys a lemur’s tail is not prehensile (it cannot grab onto things like an extra limb). One of the most commonly seen types of lemur is the ring-tailed lemur. They are grey, with a black and white ringed tail. They are the typical lemur.
