Yes, it is!!! Reason being they do grow up and get sharp teeth then majority of people that own them just chuck them out or get bored with them as they are very time consuming. Go and visit Monkey World at Wareham in Dorset and Sponsor one of their monkeys instead, you will be helping the Sanctuary and also wont get bored with the monkey.

if you have cable/dstv and you watch ANY of the national geographic channels, you would have heard David Attenborough say it was illegal as they are endangered

No it is not illegal. However, it is a bit silly in my opinion: They might be fascinating to watch but not veru afectionate nor keen on human contact.
Best wishes

I would’ve thought so. They used to have really small monkeys as pets decades ago because I remember my mum saying her nan owed one. Now however I would’ve thought (and hoped) that it’s against animal protection laws. Besides they might look cool, but as soon as they hit maturity they’ll be attacking you and your neighbours or humping everything in site – not fun!

It may be okay in one city and not allowed in another, so best to check to check with your city of county offices to see if legal

In Britain, it’s illegal to own any monkey or ape

If its a protected species then you need a special license, otherwise you just need a special license.
To get the licence you have to prove to DEFRA that you know how to keep the species, have suitable accomodation and so on. You can visit their website for more details.
Spider monkeys are arboreal, so unless you live in the treetops or have nailed scramble netting to all your ceilings you probably won’t be allowed to keep one.
Plus when it becomes an adult it will want to mate with you so good luck with that…

If you live in the U.K i think you have to apply for a
Dangerous Wild Animals (D.W.A.) certificate but they are difficult to get they don’t just hand them out to anybody.
