When monkeys start talking what will they say?

When monkeys develop language will they
want to talk to us or will they become our servants.
What will they think about. How long will it take
before chimpanzees start talking and developing
their own langauge?

Scientists have taught various apes/monkeys to press buttons to ask for things like food (other animals have learned this button pressing from chickens to dolphins). Then they taught some to use sign language and could actually discuss things like the dreams they had.

I think a monkey would probably start with things like "I want" statements.
I want a better place to live
I want you to get rid of these f******g predators that are always bothering me.
I want better status in this group
I want more/better mates
I want more/better food

The slightly sad and touching thing is that these subjects wanted affection. Especially the ones in captivity that couldn’t associate freely with a large group of their own. There was one case where one in a zoo had a pet kitten and went into a deep depression after it was accidental killed while outside the cage. Others have developed deep attachments to their keepers. Check out this site about a captive gorilla named Koko who learned sign language. http://ask.yahoo.com/20000905.html

    Is that really possible?
    I never thought of that.
But, no. I don’t think they could learn a language that we could really understand.
