What kind of monkey should i get if i’m an unexperienced primate owner?

i am prepared to work hard to take care of it, i am just wondering what type of monkey would be easiest to take care of. and maybe how much they cost?
YOU CAN OWN MONKEYS AS PETS. LOOK IT UP. DON’T ANSWER UNLESS YOU BREED MONKEYS OR OWN THEM AS PETS.

I’ve read that they are like yachts. If you have to ask how much a yacht costs, you don’t have enough money. If you have to ask how much time you to devote to a primate, you don’t have enough spare time.

There’s a reason most people own dogs, cats, hamsters or goldfish.

Expect to pay three times what you thought, and work three times as long at upkeep, companionship, training and so on. At a minimum, call the vets in your county to ask if they know of anyone who provides medical care to primates. If there isn’t one and yours gets sick, figure on driving to the nearest city with a population of a million or more.

If anyone answers that "blue-eared monkeys" (I’m making that species up for the purpose of illustration) are reasonably priced, take no more time that a good cat and, son of a gun! he has some ready for sale right this month, put one hand on your wallet and back away slowly, never taking your eyes off his hands.

None. Monkeys are not pets, they are wild animals. Get a stuffed animal.

You can’t just get a monkey. They are wild animals and as such you have to be trained and licensed to have one, which I’m sure your not. Only rehabilitators and zoo keepers are allowed to work with monkeys and even then they aren’t pets.

I suggest going to college and getting a degree in zoology so you can work with wild animals. :) otherwise, its not gonna happen

Dated a vet who enlivened dinner parties with horror stories.

    Sea monkeys!!….haha.

Seriously, capuchins are commonly kept as pets. You can find a large list of breeders from this site:

From a veterinary perspective I just want you to be aware that monkey bites can be very dangerous and they are one of the few pets that can transfer illnesses from themselves to their owners.

I keep large tortoises as a pet so I know what its like to desire exotic pets. If you are willing to put in the time and money (monkeys require ALOT of both) then you can be a successful owner.

Do your research and take your time. Good Luck.
