How can you get a pet monkey legally?

I know a monkey can be expensive, but where can you get one and how do you get legal documents to carry it around with you?

I am serious, don’t do it! Monkeys are mean and dirty. They do not make great pets. They are wild animals and should be allowed to remain that way. Many people get them and then they have to get rid of them to shelters, most of the time. Please read up on the care and disposition of these animals before you consider one.

I don’t know how you can, but I do know that you shouldn’t. They are mean, nasty…..oh and wild animals that should be kept in the wild and zoos for us to see and learn about so that we don’t go around plucking them out of the wild and making them live in captivity.

You should seriously research getting a monkey before you get one just because you think "it is cool." Monkeys carry diseases that can be passed to humans such as Tuberculosis and a deadly disease known as the Herpes B virus. This leads to meningitis in humans and before it is recognized for what it is, you are toast. There are numerous other diseases you can catch from them not to mention the diseases you can pass on to them.

Depending on the species of monkey you are talking about, it could kill you in a heartbeat and not think twice about it especially if it is in its normal breeding season. Monkeys are not domesticated and these behaviors cannot be taken out of them just because you put them in a house.

Also remember they do dirty things like throw poop and eat poop and throw their food… This is not the cool "pet" you think it is. Plus there is not a great commercialized monkey diet made widely available to the public. You can’t just feed it bananas and think it will be healthy.

You are making a big mistake. A lot of states have made it illegal to own exotic pets such as monkeys, tigers, etc. Others you have to have a special permit for and show proof you have the proper facilities to house the animal and knowledge for its care. The state doesn’t want to clean up your mess.
