Everyone on the show and the network on which it airs refers to him (CG) as a monkey. George is an a chimpanzee and therefore an ape. Why would an "educational" network not have the proper information?
Curious George is a monkey. Quote from a Curious George story:
"This is George. He lived in Africa. He was a good little monkey and always very curious."
Also, words have what’s called connotations. Although apes are not monkeys, connotatively, they are.
