I guess there were several alleged victims that had sustained what appeared to be injuries inflicted on them by an animal (bites and scratches/claw marks?) and it was suppose to be under investigation. I know that there were many, like the police, that attributed these attacks to mere superstition, but I don't remember if anything was ever conclusively stated. It is highly likely that it may have been a result of mass hysteria. The monkey man is really the devil and he punishes those who lose faith in God.
