What is the habitat of a spider monkey?

Posted by admin on May 25th, 2010 and filed under spider monkey | 2 Comments »

Spider monkeys (Simia paniscus) are primitive New World monkeys of the family ‘Atelidae’ found in tropical lowland rainforests from Mexico to South America, along the coasts and the banks of the Amazon, south to Bolivia and the Matto Grosso in Brazil and the mountain forest slopes of the Andes.

They range from sea level to higher ground. Spider monkeys live in evergreen rainforests, semi deciduous and mangrove forests, almost never coming to the ground. In these forests they live mostly in the upper canopy, preferring undisturbed high forest. They will be found in other forest types if habitat is limited, hunting pressure light and other primate competitors are not present. They are more flexible than their South American primate cousins in habitat adaptation

Indigenous peoples often hunt spider monkeys for food, and the animals are usually agitated by human contact. Logging and deforestation continue to shrink the space that spider monkeys are able to call home.

How Does A Spider Monkey Adapted To Living In The Rain Forest?

It’s small and light with long limbs each ending in a hooked "hand". The tail is prehensile (meaning it can grip) and the tail also has a patch of skin much like the pad of your finger that can grip branches etc. This pad has a unique print, so you can use it to identify individual animals.

Calling all Twilight fans. What lake is in the background of the ’spider monkey scene’?

Posted by admin on March 7th, 2010 and filed under spider monkey | 2 Comments »

I have been googling this everywhere and cannot find it. So is the lake in the background of this scene and I think several other scenes the same as the one from harry potter. I have been told this was so, but I do not believe it. What is the answer.

I think it is the Strait of Juan de Fuca. It is north of Forks, WA. It is the boarder between the USA and Canada.

Any ideas for an attention grabber for a speech about the Spider Monkey?

So I have to give a 4-6 minute speech & I picked the Spider Monkey, but the teacher’s really critical about the attention grabber, like if you don’t have one he takes off points. & i suckk at stuff like that.. so any ideas? it has to be like atleast 30 seconds long. just as long as its not a rhetorical question.
thanks!

There are giant black, furry spiders hanging from the trees in the Amazon forest in South America! Run for your lives! No, wait, it’s just a black spider monkey. When it uses all four limbs, and it’s body-length tail to hang from a tree, a spider monkey looks like a giant spider.

Have you ever been all jacked up on Mountain Dew, with someone about to come at you like a Spider Monkey?

Twilight Spider Monkey reference?

Posted by admin on February 19th, 2010 and filed under spider monkey | 9 Comments »

Is there any part in the Twilight book that actually involves Edward even mentioning a spider monkey? Or any mention of the monkey? If you can find the exact page, that would be wonderful! And please don’t say "it’s in a running scene," because I kinda figure it would be in a running scene, already. Thank you!!

He didn’t say anything about it. The people who are making the movie are stupid and didn’t hire the rite actors or even have the rite phrases! i really wish they weren’t making a movie of it.

Warm and humid since it lives in tropical forests.

I got bitten by a spider monkey, and my blood was exposed, is there any risk at all?

Posted by admin on February 15th, 2010 and filed under spider monkey | 6 Comments »

It was a zoo monkey, they say it’s vaccinated, but I want to know what the risks are

Any time you are bitten by an animal there is risk of infection. I could care less if it is ‘vaccinated’ because I don’t know what he has had in his mouth since then. The Zoo should be responsible and see to it you get medical care at their expense. Animal bites are always potentially infectious. Domestic, vaccinated cats put a lot of people in hospitals. Have your self and the animal examined.
