Posted by admin on January 2nd, 2010 and filed under monkey | 1 Comment »

I was at the sanrio store today, and I came across a plush monkey that wasn’t one of the sanrio characters. It looks a little bit like curious george.

Is it maybe..
Chi Chai Monchan (a pink monkey who balances bananas on his head.)

How does a monkey use its tail to improve its balance? explain in terms of center of mass and base?

Posted by admin on December 27th, 2009 and filed under monkey | 1 Comment »

can you please help me? i put that he compensates the weight of the tail with the rest of the weight. Like the center of mass is his pelvis?? but i have no clue about the base.

And are we talking about a monkey walking or on the trees? would the answer be different because of it?

The horizontal distance to which an animal body can extend depends on how far it can keep its center of gravity within its base of support. A monkey can reach farther by extending its tail, keeping its center of gravity within the support of its feet. By extending its tail, it can shift its center of gravity to maintain balance and stability. This would be mostly for in the trees, in the monkey’s case. For walking, a much larger animal might use their tail to help them keep their center of gravity above their feet so they can extend their heads.

Is it legal in Kentucky to adopt a pet monkey?

I’m going to adopt a monkey. I live in the "country" where you are allowed to keep farm animals, so is it legal to keep a pet monkey in the state of Kentucky?
I see no reason why it should be illegal.

It is NOT legal in Kentucky to adopt or purchase a monkey, but if you had it previous to July 2005, you may keep it.

How can I get a squirrel monkey into Canada as a pet?

Posted by admin on December 21st, 2009 and filed under monkey | 2 Comments »

I am looking for a tame squirrel monkey. We saw a few in the Dominican Republic and we were wondering if you can buy them and have them as pets?

Even if you can get one, you need to rethink this. They are messy, nasty, stinky and mean. They do not make a good pet. Ours was bought as a baby, and he still turned out vicious. We had to bathe him with welding gloves. We had a sink with soapy water, and one with clean water. We literally had to hold him and dip him up in down in the soap and then go to clean. He didn’t want a bath and would bite the heck out of you. I would take him outside while I was hanging clothes, I had him on a small leash. He would attack my legs and bite me.He would grab things in the rooms of the house and throw them on the floor, breaking things.I have never know a person that had a kind squirrel monkey.

Where can I buy a pet monkey in southern California?

Posted by admin on December 19th, 2009 and filed under monkey | 4 Comments »

I have been trying to find a place where I can buy a pet monkey, but there were no places in southern California?

Great info Bonsylar! In addition to that info I always provide people looking for monekey a few links. I went through the whole "I want a monkey phase" and after reading this article and looking a the second link I quickly changed my mind.

I think it is interesting that people want monkeys so bad. They do not do the proper research, because if they did they would understand that a monkey should not be a pet in the first place.

how to sanitize water in Sea Monkey kit without the sanitization powder packet that came with the kit?

Posted by admin on December 16th, 2009 and filed under monkey | 1 Comment »

I got a Sea Monkey kit and most of the water in it has
evaporated. When I started the kit, I had to put some powder that came with the
kit in the water to sanitize it. Please find out if I can sanitize water
properly for sea monkies on my own, without the sanitization powder packet that
came with the kit.

I don’t think the powerder was to sanitize it, rather to remove the chlorine and chloramine in the water, as this will kill the sea monkeys. Any commercial dechlorinator would serve the same purpose.

Is it legal to keep a monkey as a pet in Spain?

Posted by admin on December 13th, 2009 and filed under monkey | 4 Comments »

I live in Spain and want to know if it’s legal to own a monkey as a house pet.
Only a little one.
Preferably one that knows how to wash-up.
And where the baker’s is.
I like a croissant in the morning.

Yes it is, but only the Indian sub continent variety and if you call it Paco. If it were me I would import a female one from the Philippines and call her Lola, much more amenable and easy to train.

Buenos tardes.

Edit.
Not a serious question?

Where can I get a monkey as a pet in Minnesota?

Posted by admin on December 11th, 2009 and filed under monkey | 3 Comments »

I live in Minnesota and I have always wanted to get a monkey as a pet, where can I get one?
Also does anybody know how much a good pet type one would cost?

You can’t. ALL monkeys are illegal as pets in MN. If you were to illegally purchase one then you would only be sentencing it to death. It would be euthanized as soon as someone found out. And trust me, when you have a monkey people gossip, so someone WOULD find out! If you really love them so much, then you won’t take the chance of having one killed. Now, if you decide to move out of state where you can legally own one, please still do your homework on this. Monkeys are not what you think. I have 2 Capuchins and I have the scars all over me to prove it. They bite, scratch, slap, ’scream’, pull hair, and more. EVERYDAY. In fact, last night was one of the worst incidents I’ve ever had with my monkeys. I was giving one of them a bath (which they hate!). Normally he does semi OK. He always scratches me, but he is pretty tolerant with me handling him. Anyways, someone came in the house when I was bathing him and he was already upset about being bathed, but then he got even more upset about someone coming in. Anyways, you would freak if you saw my arms right now. He tore the skin all over both of my arms, hands, and my chest. And 2 seconds later he’s just back to hugging and kissing me. That’s just normal for a monkey. You cannot get upset when they hurt you. They don’t know any better. Are you tolerant enough to deal with that?

Also, you can’t have them around your friends. So, if this is for some popularity, forget it now! They hate strangers. They will bite, scratch, or pull hair of any stranger who tries to touch them. Unless you are looking for a lawsuit, you can’t have monkeys around strangers. Also, even something little like pulling hair is considered an attack and could cause it to be euthanized.

Monkeys are also very expensive. You won’t find a Capuchin for less than $7,500. And that’s cheap. However, you must have at least 2 monkeys. 1 monkey alone will be depressed. Human companionship is NOT enough. They will pace back and forth for hours at a time, scratch until their hair falls out, and inflict pain by chewing on their own limbs. You MUST have at least 2 monkeys! Also, you will need a large enclosure, which could easily cost you thousands of dollars. The minimum cage size for most states is 6×6x6, but the larger the better. It’s cruel to keep them in a small area. Do you plan on diapering them? Diapers are around $11-12 dollars for a small pack. They can easily use 8 diapers (or more) a day. Diapers for the next 40+ years is not cheap. Monkeys biscuits are a must! NO HUMAN FOOD IS ALLOWED. It kills them. Monkeys get diabetes 100 times quicker than humans. Ice cream, cookies, chips, etc. will kill monkeys. Biscuits are about $25 per bag. Monkeys should be kept on Prima-treats (vitamins) which are $80-140 per package. Yeah, not cheap. Vet bills run about 8 times what a dog vet visit would cost. Most states require at least 1 annual check up. Average price is around $500 give or take some. If you monkey ever needs a surgery, you might as well take out a 2nd morgage to pay for it!

Now, I’m not against anyone owning a monkey. I just can’t stand it when people get them and they are not educated enough about how to care for them. 98% of exotics die within the 1st 2 years because the owners aren’t educated enough about them. Don’t be one of those owners! If you REALLY want one enough that you’d be willing to move out of state, then be sure to research everything about their care, diet, housing, enrichment, behavior, and husbandry. Feel free to email me anytime with any questions you might have. I’d be more than glad to help.
