I’ve been looking at a lot of websites on Marmoset Monkey’s in Florida but most of them are scams or from another state or too expensive. Why in the world would you want a WILD ANIMAL for a pet?

All you are doing is torturing the animal if you "buy" it as a pet. It is a wild animal and NEEDS to be in the wild. You are not doing ANY good for you or the animal.

You are supporting so many wrong and illegal causes by wanting to this. Animals were here before we where and survived just fine. They do not need our help. To keep them in a cage and not allow them the freedom to be themselves is cruel.

Also think of the cost of owning such an animal, food, housing, not to mention what would be the chances that you could find a Vet that would have experience in exotic/zoo animals? It would probably cost you a fortune.

Bad idea, I don’t agree with you and think you should try adopting a dog or cat from a shelter or rescue.

monkey the best life possible in captivity. I have enough money to buy the monkey a few friends to keep him/her company and to build the kind of cage necessary even with a tree inside for climbing inside the cage. I have a huge back yard.

I dont think you should get a marmoset or any kind of monkey. They are not good pets, no matter how small.

Right, I am being serious.
Do you want to be labelled as cruel, selfish and ignorant? If you do, go ahead and get a Marmoset. You are sentencing it to a lonely life shut in a small area, because as they reach sexual maturity they will become vicious and bite as well as being very destructive and not care where it goes to the toilet.
Of course, you can always put nappies on it but as monkeys were not meant to wear nappies it wil probably rip them off.

These creatures are not pets, they are animals that should be in groups not solitary.

Call your local council to see if it is legal if you want to be selfish and add to the mental and physical detriment of a marmoset.

You are not suitable company for one of these animals, so you must keep two. Plus you must provide suitable accomodation and care.
They look cute in photos but the reality of living with them is very different.
Both are climbing animals and will literally have a nervous breakdown if you force them to live on the ground.
Spider monkeys are brachiating monkeys, like gibbons. You cannot keep a spider monkey in a small cage.
Please do some research into both these species to find out what they need. Never mind about what you want to keep as a pet, the first question to ask yourself is ‘what do I have to offer this species as an owner?’ and ‘why would this animal want to give up its life to live with me as my pet?’

I’m looking into Pygmy marmoset monkey adoption for my sister. And I guess having a monkey as a pet is restricted in some places. So, I’m looking for a place to find out if our city allows them. Where do I find out if monkeys are allowed in Waterford, MI?

Michigan addresses only big cat species and bears. Waterford Township bans the apes but not the smaller monkey species. You will still need to check Oakland county laws to see if they apply.

ARTICLE III. PIT BULL TERRIERS AND EXOTIC ANIMALS

Sec. 3-82. Prohibited exotic, rare or dangerous animals.
(a) It shall be unlawful and a violation of this article for any person to possess or maintain within the township the following animals:
(1) All animals, including snakes and spiders, whose bite or venom is poisonous or deadly to humans.
(2) Apes: Chimpanzees (Pan); gibbons (Hylobates); gorillas (Gorilla); orangutans (Pongo); and siamangs (Symphalangus).
(3) Baboons (Papoi, Mandrillus).
(4) Bears (Ursidae).
(5) Cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus).

(1) Their location conforms to the provisions of the zoning ordinance of the township.
(2) All animals and animal quarters are kept in a clean and sanitary condition and so maintained as to eliminate objectionable odors.
(3) Animals are maintained in quarters so constructed as to prevent their escape, and so as to humanely provide for their biological and social needs.
(4) No person lives or resides within one hundred (100) feet of the quarters in which the animals are kept.

(c) The prohibitions above shall not apply to any person who is in possession of an injured animal listed in this section under a valid caregiver’s permit issued by the state department of natural resources.
