Im in the same situation your in...im moving to florida soon and i told my parents i want a capuchin monkey and they said maybe but do you know the steps of buying a capuchin monkey? If u dont..you have to fill out a husbandry form, get a permit, spend 1000 hours with primates or 100 hours of a taking of a test, and one of the hardest parts is getting 2 letters of recommendation..which is 2 experts on monkeys give you something that explains your ready to get one.....and if you do pass every step....spend a while chosing a good, well mannered capuchin. You will need a 6x6x6 cage for it too....and of course you need the money! And i hate when people say capuchin monkeys are horrible pets...and i hate when they say they should be kept in the wild but if you find a good monkey at a pet store...its already taking away from the wild and it probably wants a new home! So it will take a lot of time and effort to get a capuchin....im hoping i will get a capuchin someday too.....Hope you get a capuchin monkey!!!
References :
Research

Firstly, depending on how strict and/or stubborn your parents may be, there are a few things to do to make them agree with you on purchasing a monkey. Firstly, look at it from your parents' point of view. Have you shown them that you are capable of meeting all the needs and costs of the Monkey? They need to know that you can care for this pet, without leaving unwanted responsibilities to them. Secondly, it may help to make a list of all the qualities of this monkey that may prove appealing to them. Show them, in writing, what this monkeys needs are and how you can take care of them without any effort on your parents' part. Tell them why this monkey could be a great part of the family, and could provide much fun and enjoyment. It would also be helpful to show your parents all of the things that you would need for this monkey and how you can access them. This should show your parents that you are responsible, thorough, and really want the monkey. :)
References :
I'm not sure where you heard they are legal here in aus I've been licenced for 5 years and still not even aloud to have sugar gliders that are native let alone a monkey.
Apart from the licencing aspect look at it from the perspective of would you want a baby like a real live baby that cries poo's wets needs 4 hour feeds gets into EVERYTHING?
It's not like a dog or cat it is primal it has animalistic behaviour that no amount of training can tame.
I don't want to say it's because of your age but you're at school where's the monkey going to stay, it can't be left alone or in a cage it's just like leaving a baby only difference is people wouldn't call docs.
Be realistic, it's great to mant something different but you have soooo many other options.
References :
Love animals big and small - and they've taken over my house lol
