do you need a exotic pets licence to own a capuchin monkey?

i have seen them on sale in UK and befor buying wnat to know if you need a licence?

These adverts are scams…real monkey breeders dont advertise in this way. You cannot get the black and white capuchins you see in the adverts, only the brown capped capuchin is available in the UK….and they will cost you a minimum of 4000. Since you need at least two monkeys, this is doubled to 8000, and they will cost you a similar amount to keep each year.

You will require an expensive enclosure which will cost at least another 2000 to erect, it must be heated for winter time and allow natural light to get in, making it MORE expensive.

You CANNOT keep a monkey in your house, even in a cage, any cage in a house is too small, minimum recommended enclosure for a pair of caps is 20ft long by 10ft wide.

Capuchins, like all monkeys are very aggressive and sexual when they hit maturity. They can use tools and are deeply dangerous, they stink, indulge in nasty habits involve their own faecal matter and will openly masturbate on you…it is NOT like that programme My Monkey Baby the reality is that monkeys cost tens of thousands to set up correctly and thousands to keep each year, they are capable of delivering such vicious bites and scratches you can require hospitalisation, they can pass diseases to you that can kill you, the common cold you catch can kill them, not to mention the cruelties involved in keeping them. YOU CANNOT KEEP ONE MONKEY ALONE THEY NEED ANOTHER MONKEY FOR COMPANY.

I am hoping you have more sense than you have money and you decide against buying monkeys. If you need more proof, go and volunteer at Monkey World or your local zoo…and see first hand what primates are REALLY like, all the primate keepers will tell you, beautiful and amazing as they are, they cannot be kept as pets by 99.9% of the population happily.

you live in the united kingdom? then you will need to post your question on yahoo answers UK this one is for america. In america you will either have to have an exotic pets license Or most likely a researchers license which you cant get unless you study animals for a living. Go to google and type in animal class licensing laws.

@ the person above me your ignorant its not ok to keep a monkey in a cage at night, but its right to keep dogs, rats, mice, snakes, lizards, spiders, and all other pets in cages lol? so that means none can own any of these pets unless you own a farm.

Please don’t buy one they make terrible pets and it is cruel to keep them as pets . They are socail animlas and need to live in large groups in huge enclosures with specailist care. When they reach sexual matrity they become very aggressive. Having them as pets causes them great mental cruelity. People who have them as pets don’t thing about the well being of the animal they are just selfish. If you really care about the animals adopt one from an good primate rescue like Monkey World in Dorest they rescue primate of all shapes and sizes from a cruel pet trade all over the world.I will attact there site and if you are still thing of getting one as a pet please contact them so they can explain a lot better than me why they make terrible pets. http://www.monkeyworld.org/
