They are not pets in the usual sense, so what you are doing is keeping a wild animal in captivity - there is a difference. Also, as they are extremely social animals you need at least two, otherwise they are just miserable. It is really rather cruel to keep them captive for no reason - they are born to live wild in the trees. Also, monkeys for the pet trade are caught as babies, by killing the mother and then taking the baby - also extremely cruel.
